This movie is based on a true story about Somali pirates taking over a cargo ship and attempting to extort money from the owners of the vessel.The first third of the movie which was Tom Hanks getting ready for this boating job and getting his ship in order and interacting with the crew and then realizing they were being approached by pirates and readying the men for the attack was very very suspenseful and tense.
what was amazing to me was the utter chaos of the pirate attack. The pirates (at least in this one situation) are poor, uneducated, totally disorganized, competitive men who have no real plan and no leader. For some reason i had always thought these pirate events were military precision operations.
The movie was too long and once Captain Phillips gets on the life boat with the pirates it dragged. Plus there was too much navy seal and coast guard rescue scenes.
We both rated this movie an 8.
I agree. I think it was to long and they should have brought in Vin Diesel and the Rock and maybe even Tom cruise to liven up a bit. And i thought that there wasn't enough half naked navy seals, but that's just my 2cents. LOL! I DID ENJOY IT!
ReplyDeleteyeah, it could have used some female energy; a fight between catherine keener and him on the way to the airport or one of the pirates could have brought along his girlfriend. she would have kept them all in line.
